Projects
Here are many of our impactful projects we have done over the past years. All of these projects are continued projects we do each year. We do differentiate and add something new/different to each project.

Teens in the Drivers Seat
2022 Burwell High Sophomore Health students got the opportunity to create a video and poster for a contest promoting safe driving that was apart of Distracted Driving Month and Teens in the Driver Seat Program. The students received HONORABLE MENTION out several high schools in Nebraska!

Human Performance Project, Aurora, NE
The HPP Nebraska Regional Summer Summit is a chance for students to immerse themselves in a positive, health-focused environment while learning from US Navy SEALs as well as athletes and coaches from Olympic and professional sport. These two days are designed to give students and coaches the best tools and information to make the best choices for optimizing mental/physical health and performance.
This specific project isn’t just a one year and done. We have gone for several years and each year our group works hard at couple of fundraisers so we can continue to send students to this leadership conference.
Check out News tab June 2023 for a recent update on HPP.
MAD
MAD is “Making A Difference”. GLWCC reaches out to teen girls in hopes to meet several times a summer to partake in fun activities while learning about sexual risk avoidance and making a difference in teens lives. The girls learn to build relationships as well as learn how important community service work and giving back is.
7th Grade Retreat-Kamp Kaleo, Burwell, NE
In August GLWCC brings in future 7th grade students from Garfield, Loup, and Wheeler counties to stay one night/two days and learn about Seatbelt Safety, Distracted Driving, Rotary 4 Way test, Drug Abuse, Tobacco, Vaping and Alcohol Abuse.
Red Ribbon Week for October
During the month of October, we prepare for Red Ribbon Week in the Elementary, High School, and Pre-school in all counties. Red Ribbon Week usually occurs the last week of October. Many of the High School kids who are in the GLWCC club participate and deliver promotional items and interact with the younger students on what it is to be drug-free.
Flowerbed/Curbside Clean-up
Each year GLW picks a few days to volunteer and do a “clean-up” around town. We replant flowerbeds, create new ones, and even clear and clean businesses side walls and fronts.
Additional Projects:
~GLWCC leaders meet with 2nd-6th grade two to three times a week to provide training for evidence based curriculum on drugs, alcohol, adolescence, and healthy lifestyles.
~GLWCC brings in speakers to talk to youth and young adults on various topics from healthy habits to consequences of drugs, alcohol, tobacco etc.
~ GLWCC also works with local law enforcement to create “STASH ROOMS”. Stash rooms are to help parents and kids understand ALL the various places drugs can be hidden.
